As the world’s oldest regional international financial institution, the IDB is the largest source of multilateral financing for economic, social, and institutional development in the Latin America and Caribbean (LAC) region.

In 2019, the IDB approved projects totalling over USD $10.5 billion, being implemented in 26 borrowing member countries. The IDB Group also includes IDB Invest, which finances projects led by the private sector in LAC, as well as IDB Lab, an innovation laboratory.
