A new concert hall for the MSO: A modern project to strengthen Montreal's unique and exceptional cultural image

Montreal, June 27, 2006 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes today's announcement by Jean Charest, premier of Quebec, and Line Beauchamp, minister of Culture and Communications, in the presence of Lucien Bouchard, chair of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, and Kent Nagano, music director designate of the MSO, that plans to build Montreal's new concert hall will be carried out.

“Culture is one of the elements confirming Montreal's status as a vibrant and attractive metropolis, and we must not only support its major institutions but also ensure the quality of the infrastructures that house them. Many efforts have indeed been made to support our cultural talent, and we must continue to invest in the facilities that welcome them. This modern new hall will strengthen the unique and exceptional image of our metropolis and contribute to the development and international reputation of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra,” declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

“The announcement of the construction of this permanent core facility in the heart of the metropolis will provide the foundation for numerous other revitalization projects in the Entertainment District. This sector of downtown Montreal deserves to be developed as home to a concentration of artists, creators, and entertainment buildings that is unique in North America and that confirms Montreal's distinctive image and reputation on the international scene,” concluded Hudon.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its mission is to represent the interests of the business community of Greater Montreal and to provide individuals, merchants and businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is the largest private organization in Quebec dedicated to economic development.
