The Board of Trade invites the business community to support
its electoral requests at www.4issuesforthecity.ca

Montréal, August 14, 2012 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is inviting members of the business community to make Quebec’s three main political parties aware of their support for the four issues identified by the organization. We are encouraging voters to echo our requests at www.4issuesforthecity.ca, a website launched by the Board of Trade exclusively for the election campaign.

“The city must resume its role as the driving force of the Quebec economy, and we are calling on the business community to join us in encouraging those who hope to form the next government to commit to the city and make critical decisions for its economic future,” stated Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

“With this web and viral campaign, we are asking business people to show the political parties that they support one or more of the four issues identified by the Board of Trade by going to www.4issuesforthecity.ca and making an effort that will send a clear message: the economic well-being of the metropolitan region must be a priority issue for the next government of Quebec,” said Michel Leblanc.

The business community will be able to take a position on the following four issues:

  1. We are asking the parties to commit to implementing a concrete strategy to improve the city’s business environment.
  2. We are asking the parties to commit to modernizing and completing the city’s public transit system.
  3. We are asking the parties to commit to increasing the city’s pool of qualified labour.
  4. We are asking the parties to commit to resolving the problem of overgovernance afflicting the city.

“Questions surrounding the city’s importance for Quebec’s economic vitality must remain central to the current debate,” continued Michel Leblanc.

Remember that Raymond Bachand of the Québec Liberal Party, Diane de Courcy of the Parti Québécois, and Stéphane Le Bouyonnec of the Coalition Avenir Québec will defend their party’s ideas regarding the future of the city in a debate at the Board of Trade this Friday, August 17, 2012. Go to www.btmm.qc.ca/debate for complete details of this event.
