The Board of Trade salutes the commitment of Raymond Bachand

Montréal, August 26, 2013 ‒ The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal salutes Raymond Bachand’s steadfast commitment to the city, following the announcement that he is leaving politics.

“Both as Finance Minister and as Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, Raymond Bachand demonstrated the discipline and courage to manage public finances responsibly, in shaky and uncertain economic times,” says Michel Leblanc, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “The three Government of Québec budgets he brought in, as well as his many interventions in economic issues, made a substantial contribution to the city’s development and influence.”

“He played an outstanding role in protecting our economy, culture and social programs,” Mr. Leblanc says. “The Board of Trade would also like to point to his contribution to the creation of Montréal, Cultural Metropolis, when he was Minister responsible for the Montréal region. His leadership helped rally the three levels of government and improve Montréal’s positioning as a major international city of culture.”

“Upon hearing the announcement, the city’s business community responded with gratitude to a man who distinguished himself in everything he did, through his vision and ability to listen to the community of Montréal and Québec,” Michel Leblanc says. “Minister Bachand has been a friend to the city in so many ways.”
