Revision and implementation of the Quartier Bonaventure project:
An important step towards making this cornerstone project a reality
Montréal, August 12, 2010 − The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montréal favourably welcomes the presentation of the revised Quartier Bonaventure project and the announcement of its implementation beginning this fall. By the same token, the Board of Trade reiterates that the realization of this project is a priority for Montréal, and that it must be moved forward with all of the rigor it implies.
“Today, a satisfactory solution to one of the main points of contention concerning the Quartier Bonaventure project was revealed. By proposing a new configuration for bus traffic between the South Shore and downtown, the City of Montréal has removed a sizable obstacle to the beginning of construction,” stated Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montréal.
“The Quartier Bonaventure project is an ambitious one. It rests on a large-scale and extremely promising vision of the Montréal harbour sector, which possesses an exceptional, formative, and unique potential for development,” said Michel Leblanc.
“In presenting its revised project, the City is demonstrating its willingness to move forward. The announcement of the beginning of some of the preparatory work this autumn is excellent news, as is the establishment of a joint project office by the City and the Harbourfront Corporation. This is clearly a project that is making progress,” stated a delighted Michel Leblanc.
“It is important to remember that matters of accessibility and traffic flow are of prime importance to the business community. With its announcement, the City clearly demonstrated its sensitivity to these issues. Moreover, it did so by finding a reasonable compromise that will minimize the irritations relating to bus traffic,” concluded Michel Leblanc.
