Montréal, November 6, 2012 - The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montréal has noted Mr. Gérald Tremblay’s decision to step down from his position as Mayor of Montréal and President of the Montréal Metropolitan Community.
“In the current context, it was becoming difficult for the Mayor of Montréal to provide all of the leadership required to properly run the City and to restore the bond of trust with Montrealers. The allegations before the Charbonneau Commission are troubling and suggest that the municipal administration is in need of major reforms. We nevertheless hope that the Mayor will soon have an opportunity to explain his version of events before this Commission,” stated the President and CEO of the Board of Trade, Mr. Michel Leblanc.
“Mayor Tremblay leaves Montréal on much better economic and financial footing than it was when he arrived eleven years ago. We must now make sure that the City gets through the period of economic uncertainty with as little damage as possible. We must avoid relapsing into the do-nothing attitude that once characterized the city. In this regard, we hope that the City of Montréal will continue the implementation of many growth-generating projects currently in progress without delay. Projects under the responsibility of the Government of Québec—in particular, the replacement of the Turcot Interchange—must also proceed according to schedule,” added Michel Leblanc.
“We reiterate our desire to cooperate with the City of Montréal in helping to ensure an administration that is beyond reproach by the next municipal election, and to implement strong and effective measures to offer the best possible conditions for the creation of wealth and jobs,” concluded Michel Leblanc.
