The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal applauds the vision presented by the Partenariat du Quartier des spectacles

Montreal, June 22, 2004 – Deeply concerned about the importance of urban planning and the vitality of cultural environments, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal applauds the vision of the Partenariat du Quartier des spectacles and its implementation plan.

“In today's global context, the development of metropolises no longer depends solely on high-quality urban infrastructures and facilities but also, in large part, on the maintenance of a dynamic cultural and artistic environment. In this regard, the Board of Trade enthusiastically welcomes the development, by a group of stakeholders from such a wide range of backgrounds as of that forming the partnership, of a shared vision of what the Quartier des spectacles should become in future years. Combining an urban development approach with the needs of the many players working toward the artistic and cultural development of this district is a particularly promising way to consolidate Montreal's position as a cultural metropolis in North America,” declared Benoit Labonté, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

“The partnership's long-term proposal for the development of this Greater Montreal structuring project could not be implemented without the cooperation of all the relevant players in government bodies, private companies, and associations. It is through the implementation of such mobilizing visions, calling upon the creativity of the dynamic forces of the metropolis and ensuring the coherence of the actions taken, that Montreal will create high-quality urban spaces that will be enjoyed by the public and that, ultimately, will generate more projects and enhance our quality of life,” concluded Labonté.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal has some 7,000 members. Its primary mission is to represent the interests of the business community of the Greater Montreal and to provide individuals, merchants, and businesses of all sizes with a variety of specialized services to help them achieve their full potential in terms of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. The Board of Trade is Quebec's leading private economic development organization.
