Press release: Promoting Quebec's construction know-how in the New York market

Press release

Promoting Quebec's construction
know-how in the New York market

Montreal, May 9, 2005 – The Association de la construction du Québec (ACQ) and World Trade Centre Montréal, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal's team of international trade experts, are organizing a second trade mission to New York on May 24 and 25. Over 15 participants will head to the Big Apple in search of work contracts.

Aimed at the industrial, commercial and institutional construction sectors, this mission will allow contractors and heads of construction companies to meet with general contractors and architects already well established in New York. It bears mentioning that the 25 largest projects currently under study, approved or underway in this city are valued at US$16.4 billion.

“There's tremendous potential and we already know that general contractors in New York are interested in Quebec products and services. We want to encourage exchanges and help our contractors advertise their know-how and expertise in the construction of office towers, hotels, restaurants and residential buildings,” stated Me Pierre Hamel, the Assocation's director of legal and government affairs and head of trade missions.

“Our experts at WTC Montréal have been organizing exclusive trade missions with the ACQ for five years now. This partnership helps Quebec companies gain a foothold in the construction markets of the most dynamic cities in the U.S. The mission to New York will give the participants the unique opportunity to forge ties with key players in that market. Although the last few years have been great for the construction industry, opportunities have been limited in Quebec and Canada. And it's precisely when business is good that we must seek out new, highly promising markets,” affirmed Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

The Association de la construction du Québec represents 15,000 firms through its various mandates to promote and defend the interests of construction companies. Its members operate primarily in the institutional-commercial and industrial sectors (IC/I). ACQ is the employer bargaining agent for IC/I employers. The Association is also present in the residential sector through its Qualité Habitation and Qualité Rénovation guarantee plans.

Through its experts at World Trade Montréal, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal offers international trade services to the greater business community. The organization is backed by Canada Economic Development.
