Trade mission to Chile confirms that market’s potential for Montréal businesses

Montréal, June 10, 2013 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and its team of international trade experts, the World Trade Centre Montréal, gave six Québec businesses the opportunity to act on their plans to expand into Chile during a trade mission to Santiago. Thanks to the efforts of our team of experts, participating companies met with market specialists and many potential business partners, including major players in the Chilean economy.

“Chile is a leading business destination in Latin America,” says Michel Leblanc, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. “The country has its doors wide open to international trade and has the most favourable business regulatory framework in the region. Plus, Chilean consumers’ purchasing power is the highest on the continent, and foreign investments in the country are growing. Our businesses must take advantage of this market’s receptiveness and many business opportunities, because Chile’s future is bright.”

With the support of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce, the World Trade Centre Montréal team offered the delegation a complete program of meetings to help them in their business development efforts with Chilean partners. Some of the largest companies in the country were on hand, including Codelco, the world’s leading copper producer, Endesa Chile, the country’s main electric company, and the Chilean subsidiary of Walmart.

“We returned from this trade mission with the conviction that the Chilean market is receptive to our service offer in the repair and custom manufacturing of industrial equipment,” says Mario Montpetit, CEO of the Delom Group. “During the trade mission, we were able to target potential business partners and initiate discussions with them. We are pleased with the access we had to major contractors such as Codelco and Endesa Chile. Chile is definitely now part of our business development strategy for Latin America.”

“The Board of Trade will continue in its efforts to converge on Latin American markets,” Michel Leblanc says. “Next week, we will be hosting procurement managers from IDINSA, a large Mexican company that handles major public works projects. We encourage local entrepreneurs to take advantage of this opportunity to distinguish themselves with these decision makers and to participate in our upcoming trade missions to these markets to strengthen business relationships and develop new partnerships.”
