Launch of the first Quebec 2010 Strategic Focus

Press release

Launch of the first Quebec 2010 Strategic Focus

Montréal, January 27, 2010 - SECOR, in partnership with the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and in cooperation with La Presse, is pleased to announce the first Quebec 2010 Strategic Focus to be held this spring.

This major forum, taking place Thursday, April 22, 2010 at the Centre Mont-Royal, will bring together some 300 participants: 200 decision makers and leaders from large corporations, government, central labour unions and other sectors that are pillars of Quebec society, along with around 100 people under 40, representing Quebec's new guard and ready to take the helm. During the day, attendees will be invited to participate in plenary sessions and in camera workshops, and to attend presentations by renowned conference speakers.

Quebec 2010 Strategic Focus will be an opportunity for high-level thinking on how Quebec should tackle the major challenges that await it. Coming on the heels of the recent Economic Meeting 2010, this major event will continue the reflection process begun about major issues and help determine priorities for action, through a meeting among the leaders of today and tomorrow.

"For a number of years, Quebec has been facing many internal debates that sometimes prevent companies from fully seizing opportunities for growth," said Marcel Côté, Founding Partner of SECOR. "A company cannot grow if it is not operating in a prosperous economic environment. Business people and many leaders of Quebec society want to mobilize and consult one another to collectively identify major issues, make the right choices for the future and equip themselves with the means to succeed. We've spent a long time thinking; it's time to act!"

Two advisory committees, one made up of influential leaders from the business community and the other representing the up and coming generation, participated in a diagnosis and preliminary determination of issues that will be addressed by the Quebec 2010 Strategic Focus to equip Quebec with high-performance vision and strategic plan. A number of other meetings with leaders are already planned for the coming weeks.

"The Board of Trade is proud to be the host of an event as unifying and mobilizing as Quebec 2010 Strategic Focus," said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal. "We are convinced that it is important for Quebec to adopt an ambitious, clear and consistent economic strategy. The discussions during this event will contribute to the collective effort to prepare Quebec for the post-crisis period. Everyone will have an eye on the ultimate goal: building the Quebec of tomorrow."
