Press release

Important UAE buyers hosted by the
Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal

Montréal, June 20, 2011 – On Tuesday, June 21, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal and its team of experts in international trade, the World Trade Centre Montréal, will play host to influential businesspeople from the United Arab Emirates who will be heading up a number of major development projects in their country in the coming years.

“The rapid development and abundance of wealth in the United Arab Emirates offer Quebec businesses potential for growth and unique opportunities to initiate their export efforts,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade. “The Board of Trade is pleased to give local small businesses a venue to showcase their expertise and products to important buyers from this part of the world.”

The participating UAE buyers, including Aldar Properties PJSC, Manazel PJSC, Consolidated Contractors Company and Al Falah, will address Quebec small businesses during a breakfast meeting. Local businesses working in the construction, environmental, security, engineering and information technology sectors will learn more about the best practices for doing business profitably with organizations in the Middle East. During their stay in Montréal, the foreign buyers will also visit a number of the province’s top small businesses.

“Last year, current and projected construction projects in the UAE represented over US$800 billion,” Mr. Leblanc said. “Since growth in these countries is showing no signs of slowing, partnerships formed by Quebec businesses are particularly important.”

This event is organized in partnership with the Middle East Trade Development Agencyand presented in cooperation with Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada, the Caisse de dépôt et placement du Québec, the Association de la construction du Québec and Quebec’s Ministère du Développement économique, de l’Innovation et de l’Exportation.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal—through its experts at the World Trade Centre Montréal, and with the support of Canada Economic Development—offers international trade services to the greater business community.
