The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal applauds the agreement reached between Quebec and Ottawa on job training

Montréal, March 4, 2014 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal welcomes the agreement between the Minister of Employment and Social Solidarity, Minister of Labour, Minister responsible for the Status of Women and Minister responsible for the Chaudière-Appalaches and Capitale-Nationale regions, Agnès Maltais, and the Minister of Employment and Social Development and Minister of Multiculturalism, the Honourable Jason Kenney, regarding job training.

“This agreement is good news for Greater Montréal, where more than half of the province’s jobs are concentrated,” said Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade. “This agreement recognizes that Quebec has a job training system that works and that meets the needs of Quebec and Montréal businesses. This is an example of successful dialogue between two levels of government that will no doubt help build a predictable business environment.”

“The aging population will increase the difficulty of recruiting qualified, experienced human resources,” Michel Leblanc added. “To help businesses tackle this challenge, job training programs will play an increasingly essential role in improving alignment between the labour supply and business needs. The Board of Trade will continue to support the Government of Quebec in this effort, in particular through its Interconnection program, the goal of which is to increase the employability of immigrants.”
