Electoral debate on 4 issues for the economic future of the metropolitan region: new candidate representing the Québec Liberal Party

Press release

Electoral debate on 4 issues for the economic future of the metropolitan region:
new candidate representing the Québec Liberal Party

Montréal, August 15, 2012 – The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal would like to announce that the new Québec Liberal Party representative taking part in the debate on Friday, August 17 is Mr. Pierre Moreau, the candidate in the riding of Châteauguay. Mr. Moreau replaces Mr. Raymond Bachand, originally announced last week, and will defend his party’s positions against Ms. Diane De Courcy of the Parti Québécois and Mr. Stéphane Le Bouyonnec of the Coalition Avenir Québec.

“This change, beyond the control of the Board of Trade, in no way affects the nature of the debate. The representatives of the three main political parties will have an opportunity to make the business community aware of the commitments they intend to make, should their party form the next government, to ensure that the city can resume its role as an economic engine,” stated Michel Leblanc, President and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

Remember that the Board of Trade has called on the parties to present their positions on the following four requests:

  1. We are asking the parties to commit to implementing a concrete strategy to improve the city’s business environment.
  2. We are asking the parties to commit to modernizing and completing the city’s public transit system.
  3. We are asking the parties to commit to increasing the city’s pool of qualified labour.
  4. We are asking the parties to commit to resolving the problem of overgovernance afflicting the city.

The metropolitan business community is invited to go to www.ccmm.qc.ca/debat for details about this breakfast meeting, which will take place at the Delta Centre-Ville, this Friday, August 17, from 8 am to 10 am.

The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal also invites members of the business community to make the Quebec political parties aware of their concern for the four issues defined by the organization. We encourage voters to echo our requests at www.4issuesforthemetropolis.ca, a website launched by the Board of Trade exclusively for the election campaign.
