Press release

11th edition of Journées de la culture:
The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal launches its program

Montréal, Friday, September 28, 2007 – For the fourth consecutive year, the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal is proud to participate in Journées de la culture, now in its eleventh edition.   In honour of this occasion, the Board of Trade is organizing a series of activities in the Ruelle des Fortifications of the World Trade Centre Montréal.

“Our involvement in this event is more than just symbolic in our eyes, since it is a valuable opportunity to promote encounters between artists and business people.  What is creativity?  How do you move beyond a dream and summon the boldness and energy to surmount all obstacles?  How do you bring together the means, the strengths, and the talents to finalize a project?  All this is not so different from what must be done by many companies rising to the challenge of competition in a globalized economy.  From this perspective, culture and artists not only have much to contribute in terms of quality of life and the appeal of our metropolis but also have much to teach us,” declared Isabelle Hudon, president and CEO of the Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal.

Today's program
The Board of Trade launched its program this morning by inviting Yannick Nézet-Séguin, artistic director and principal conductor of the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal and music director designate of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, to speak to members of the business community about the impact of culture on the development of the metropolis.

The Board of Trade is also inviting its members, along with the general public, to visit the Ruelle des Fortifications of the World Trade Centre Montréal for the unveiling of a collective piece created for the Art at Work project by photographer Caroline Hayeur and the Board of Trade's entire staff.

“Artist Caroline Hayeur devised with us a collective work where every employee was invited to take a photo illustrating their personal vision of Montréal.  Hayeur then photographed each employee with their photo in their work environment.  The participation rate was 100%!  This was a big challenge, and my team rose to it with all the drive and creativity I have come to expect from them.  The work is titled The Board of Trade's Views and beautifully reflects our shared conception of our great cause: Montréal!” added Hudon.

A match of the Ligue Nationale d'Improvisation (LNI) will take place from 12:30 to 1 p.m., followed by a presentation by Benoît Paquette, actor and impersonator with the annual revue of the Théâtre du Rideau Vert, from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m. The Gora gallery will also be present.
