The Chamber of Commerce of Metropolitan Montreal

News about Montréal, Cultural Metropolis

In 2007, the Chamber helped create an unprecedented alliance between the Government of Canada, the Government of Québec, the Ville de Montréal and Culture Montréal to form Montreal, Cultural Metropolis. Twelve years later, major achievements have helped shape Montréal’s cultural landscape and the spirit of collaboration continues.

Culture: strategic and central to the Chamber’s efforts

The vitality of Montréal’s cultural sectors and creators is a tremendous source of pride for the city. In addition to contributing to Montréal’s visibility abroad, the creative industries are a pillar of our economy.

In a study released last year entitled “Creative industries: succeeding in a rapidly evolving environment,” the Chamber showed that the creative industries are an important source of wealth for Quebec and Montréal. In 2017, they generated economic spinoffs of $9.4 billion. The study also revealed that Montréal is a frontrunner and international leader in a number of sectors that make up the creative industries. Montréal businesses, artists and creators are known for their creativity, innovation, vision and agility. This is why it is important for the Chamber and its partners to support their development.

A major Rendez-vous Montréal, Cultural Metropolis for 2020

Montréal, Cultural Metropolis continues its collaborative work. As in 2007 and 2012, representatives from all sectors are invited to help develop the city’s culture by drawing up a new Action Plan for the coming years.

The important Rendez-vous Montréal, Cultural Metropolis, preceded by a Steering Committee meeting, will also take place in the spring. It will reaffirm the intention to develop the city’s culture and its visibility. These initiatives will lead to a number of promising projects that reflect Montréal’s cultural vitality. Ambitious, inspiring proposals are central to this effort.

Montréal, Cultural Metropolis is now under the responsibility of the Ville de Montréal’s Bureau des relations gouvernementales et municipales (office of government and municipal relations), whose mandate is to promote the interests of Montréal with municipal, governmental and institutional partners to reap maximum benefit for Montrealers.
